The difference between taking a photo and making a photo is the intent, the vision and passion (or in my case, sometimes my obsession, lol!). A lot of effort that goes into a photo-shoot, yet sometimes I don’t get single shot. That’s the reality of the photography but I enjoy the challenge, and the rewards. Often times, my capture just doesn't seem match my vision, while other times my it exceeds my expectations (that's always a bonus!). There are many types of thought-provoking photography but lately I’ve been aspiring to more expressive photography, that have an emotional attachment. Bright, warm and colorful images are generally happy, gleeful images that put a smile on your face, while the more dreary, foggy and cool images are more calming and peaceful. On the other hand, many dark images evoke a sense of melancholy or even dread (which I’m not a fan of). This photo was taken at Little Qualicum Falls, on Vancouver Island, and although it was beautiful, I found it difficult to find a composition. It was raining, and I thought I got skunked until I came across this smaller, more intimate scene. The highlighted green moss caught my eye first, and then the cool mist; which adds depth and a calming and mysterious mood to the overall image. This image belongs to Mother Nature; it's her composition, just waiting to be noticed. 🙂
"Death Valley Dunes" The weather in Death Valley was certainly challenging when I visited it but I did manage to dodge the rain and capture a few amazing shots, including this one. The sand was wet when I took this photo, and the sand underneath was dry, so walking on it was tough (but good exercise!). Look closely and you'll see I wasn't alone; there were two men off in the distance, to the right. I thought the footprints in the sand were interesting; I wondered who they belong to, and what unique stories they all had This image is available in this panoramic format as well as a full format (which includes the mount tops and threatening clouds). I chose however to showcase this panoramic format because I (personally) loved how it added a dimensional quality to the overall abstract nature of this image. #earthoutdoors #wondermore #roamearth #visualsofearth #escapeandwonder #earth_deluxe #allaboutadventures #travelwithleisure #fantasticearth #nomadict #exploretocreate #passionpassport #stayandwander #roamtheplanet #discoverearth #neverstopexploring #naturephotography #naturelovers #earthfocus #artofvisuals #welivetoexplore #deathvalley #landscapephotography #earthpix #amazingplaces #beautifuldestinations #ourplanetdaily #wildcalifornia #deathvalleynationalpark #nationalpark
"Eurasian Collared Dove" I recently met a friend at Patagonia Lake State Park, which is a nature reserve in southern Arizona (only minutes from Nogales and the Mexican border). Lori and I not only share the same make of RV but we also have a lot of similar interests, including photography, hiking, biking, kayaking, RVing and birding too. That said, this state park covers it all, and then some! The park was busy with both campers and picnickers but it wasn’t crazy busy as it sometimes is. It was so heartwarming to see parents fishing with their little ones along the shoreline, while the elderly sat on strategically placed benches to watch the birds cluster around the feeders (as was this dove). The Eurasian Collared-Dove can distinguished from its relative the Mourning Dove by its black half-collar marking on the nape of its neck. Interestingly, it's not native to North America but found its way over from the Bahamas (via Florida) when several doves escaped from a pet store during a mid-1970s burglary; they can now be found in most parts of North America. Another interesting fact is that they are one of only a few birds that can drink with their heads down; by submerging their bills and using their bills as though it was a straw. *Thanks Lori R for your “birds eye view", and for the happy hour visit too! Enjoy your travels!
