Exploring, discovering what’s around the corner and challenging my boundaries (within reason), are where I find happiness. Traveling in my RV and towing a Jeep to unique destinations hasn’t always easy but capturing shots like this one makes it all worth it! When time flies, I know that I’m in my flow and I’m in my element. Behind my camera is where I find happiness, fulfillment and (importantly), connection with all of you. Helmcken Falls is a 141 m (463 ft) waterfall on the Murtle River, within Wells Gray Provincial Park, in British Columbia, Canada. It’s one of six falls on the Murtle River and the fourth tallest in Canada. Wells Gray Provincial Park has something to offer every outdoor enthusiast. It’s lush alpine meadows are excellent for birding and wildlife. There are many hiking trails for every ability. Camping, boating, canoeing and kayaking on Clearwater Lake is a must! Businesses in the area also offer horseback riding, canoeing, river-rafting, fishing and hiking. Although my visit here was short, I look forward to going back and even getting some winter shots of the area too.
This astrophotograph is first for me. That said however there are so many different facets to photography that I don't think a photographer could possibly be proficient in them all; and because of this, our skills keep evolving. That said, it's with passionate curiosity that I continue to feed my passion. It was really hard to see and frame this shot in the dark so image my surprise when my favorite shot included a falling star! Taken at 1 a.m., facing south at Abraham Lake Alberta. The light (pollution) in the mountain valley is likely Banff and/or Calgary. Look for more astrophotography and aurora photos to come!
"Golden Birches" As I traveled the pacific northwest, I searched for that perfect and unique stand of birch (or aspen) trees to photograph, only to discover it was a lot harder than I had anticipated. It shouldn't have been so difficult but my list of "must haves" was long; mostly because I wanted my shot to be unique, and have a sense of mood. That said, I LOVE this photograph! The low light, distant fog, subtle colors and lack of density gives it a softness that I wasn't able to capture in any of my previous shots. Together, "Golden Birches" brings about a sense of calm, thus a calm to any room. This photograph will be hanging in my home.
