Antelope Point Marina is located on Lake Powell, just east of Page, Arizona. I was particularly interested in this marina because I had lived in Sicamous (British Columbia) for many years; where over 300 houseboats are moored, rented and also manufactured for the retail market. I mused, as many of these Lake Powell houseboats were built in Sicamous and transported here on a flatbed truck (I printed photos of them being launched here in my photo lab, in Sicamous, years ago). Lake Powell is a reservoir lake famous for its unique scenery, camping and house-boating. The inlet location of this marina provides weather related protection. It's also very close to the famous “Antelope Canyon” (look for a photo of it on this site).
I stayed in my RV near this desert view many times. I always kept one eye to the sky. As a photographer, I'd watch for some unique lighting conditions, cloud formations, the sun rise, and sunsets. When I saw this storm brewing, I headed out onto the desert floor. The sun was setting, that's why you see the brightly lit clouds on the mountain tops. The sun was hitting the mountains (notice the shadows) and there was enough light to create some shadows in the foreground. That said, I love the combination and contrast in this black and white photograph.
