The highly decorative Columbine flower grows wild in many parts of North America; this variety happened to be growing near my cabin in British Columbia. They grow in poor soil conditions and they’re generally found in shaded areas. The eye-catching red and yellow flowers hang down from their stems (I had to lie on the ground to get this photo), and are composed of 5 distinct red petals and upright red spurs. I named this photo “The Courage To Endure” because the Columbine flower is sometimes given as a gift to provide courage and endurance in one's endeavors. That said, this flower also has the “courage to endure” in its growing environment.
The daisy has many meanings; innocence, purity and a new beginning are among them. The other generally accepted meanings include: New beginnings; which is why they are often found in bouquets for new mothers or as gifts for children. True love; because each daisy flower is really two flowers blended together in harmony. Keeper of secrets: it symbolizes that the sender can keep a secret; after all, keeping a secret is one way a person can exhibit that they truly love another. New Beginnings; a perfect gift for someone who is making some life changes as well as new mothers. Innocence; especially with white daisies with yellow or pale centers (hence the name of this photograph). Purity; also shown by daisies that are as white as possible. It's because of that daisy's correlation to purity that I choose to limit the color saturation in this photo and keep it looking "daisy fresh". The full color version of this photograph is vibrant and is available by special request... thanks.
"Crystal Wildflowers" Mankind has always been driven to create, whether in music, art, design, innovation or, or, or.... the list can go on forever. Creativity together with imagination keeps us engaged and wanting more. That said, "more" could be a new location, or from an obscure angle, or creatively looking for something out of the ordinary, like this glass ball. I had fun setting this up this shot and quickly discovered something "new"; the magnification of the sun through a glass ball can start a fire in seconds! Yikes!
